Wizards center Montrezl Harrell enters NBA's COVID-19 protocols

Washington Wizards big man Montrezl Harrell has played in all 33 games in his first season with his new team. The 27-year-old will miss his first game of the season on Tuesday and likely more.

After being selected by the Houston Rockets with the 32nd pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and spending the first two years of his career with the franchise, Harrell was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in June 2017 as a part of a package of players to land Chris Paul. Harrell played the next three seasons with the Clippers, earning the 2019-2020 Sixth Man of the Year Award after setting career-highs in points per game (18.6) and minutes per game (27.8).

Harrell signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2020 offseason and played in 69 games while averaging 13.5 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per contest. The Louisville Cardinals product was moved to the Wizards in August 2021 as a part of a five-team trade that saw the Lakers net Russell Westbrook.

Harrell is currently averaging 14.5 points per contest and career highs in rebounds per game (7.3) assists per game (2.2) and free throw percentage (.742).

The Wizards are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for the sixth-best record in the Eastern Conference at 17-16.
