Spurs making Cedi Osman, Doug McDermott available in trade talks
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Spurs are trying to build around rookie center Victor Wembanyama, and fairly quickly. One way to do that is to see what you might be able to get in return for some expiring contracts.

Apparently, that’s the plan in San Antonio, as the Spurs have made wings Cedi Osman and Doug McDermott available in trade talks, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Osman was acquired before the season in a trade that delivered guard/forward Max Strus to the Cavaliers. He has a $6.7 million expiring deal.

Meanwhile, McDermott’s contract of $13.8 million is also up after the season. He particularly is viewed as the type of shooter who may be able to be had for cheap.

We can presume that the Spurs aren’t likely seeking much beyond second-round picks for either player, though they most certainly will aim higher than that to start.

Osman, 28, has come off the bench for a San Antonio team that has struggled to a miserable 7-31 record. He is averaging 7.8 points and shooting 38 percent on 3-pointers.

McDermott, 32, is averaging 6.4 points and shooting a sizzling 47 percent on threes.
