'Since 2007…' Dwyane Wade comes clean about painting nails and reason behind inspiration
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Former Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade made a name for himself as one of the best players to ever play the game. His three NBA titles and Finals MVP trophy, a result of his unreal basketball skills, cemented his legacy as one of the greats.

The member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team also has a passion for looking good off the court. After receiving recent criticism for painting his nails, the former NBA professional has finally revealed the reason behind the same.

Dwyane Wade has always looked smart and crisp off the court with his fashion consciousness. However, his painted nails have always remained in the limelight, and not for a good reason. After receiving a lot of backlash from fans and some circles of the media, Wade has revealed what drives his fashion trends.

As per the 42-year-old himself, he paints his nails to add to his fashion statement. And his father and uncles have inspired him to take care of his looks.

My father has always been a man who would take care of himself. My uncles took care of themselves. I always knew that’s what I wanted to do: I wanted to be one of them sharp-dressed men who smelled good, who stayed clean-shaved, and all that. I’ve been getting my nails painted since 2007. While speaking with Clay Skipper of Highsnobiety, Wade said

What this means is that instead of following any particular fashion trend, Wade was looking to create his own style. The Miami Heat superstar was wearing pink pants back in the early 2000s. At that time, such a fashion statement made people jump up from their chairs. However, in the current trend, pink pants are pretty common.

The Hall of Famer was one of the pioneers of NBA superstars making fashion statements in the arrival tunnels. Therefore, the 13-time All-Star has always tried to break the barrier in terms of fashion. And his pink nails are indeed pushing stereotypes.
