Should Sixers Consider Reunion With Mike Muscala?

With Joel Embiid out of action, the lack of size on the Philadelphia 76ers' roster has become apparent. Paul Reed and Mo Bamba have done their best to hold down the frontcourt, but should the team consider adding more size on the buyout market.

If the Sixers were to enter the market for a center, another name just entered the fray. On Tuesday night, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Mike Muscala and the Detroit Pistons have agreed to terms on a buyout. The veteran big man is now free to sign a deal with any team.

Standing at 6-foot-10, Muscala would bring some much-needed size to the Sixers' roster. In 37 games for the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons this season, he averaged 3.8 PPG and 2.8 RPG.

If Muscala were to end up in Philly, it'd be his second tenure with the Sixers. He played in 47 games during the 2018-19 season before eventually winding up on the LA Lakers. Fans would welcome him with open arms, as he played a crucial role in the Sixers being able to draft Tyrese Maxey in 2020.

Along with size, Muscala would give the Sixers another element at the center position, outside shooting. For his career, the 32-year-old is shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc. Having a big who could space the floor could benefit Maxey and other players on the roster. He could draw opposing centers away from the rim, creating more driving lanes.

While he isn't a prolific rebounder, Muscala could help lessen the blow of being without Embiid. If the Sixers are going to sign him, they'll have to make a decision quickly. The deadline for players to be playoff eligible is March 1st.
