Seth Curry 'Staying Positive' Through Early Struggles: 'I Can Affect The Game'
USA TODAY Sports

Following Wednesday night's blowout victory over the Washington Wizards, the Dallas Mavericks are off to a 9-3 start to the season as they travel to Milwaukee to finish up a four-game road trip.

And though the team may be off to a great start, that hasn't been true for each player across the board. For Seth Curry, the veteran sharpshooter has struggled to find a rhythm and a secure spot in Jason Kidd's rotation so far through a dozen games.

But in last night's win, Curry finally had a breakthrough and played his best game of the season, finishing with a season-high 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the floor in a season-high 20 minutes.

After the victory, Curry spoke on how he's stayed ready to start the season as he's been in and out of the rotation.

"Just working with the staff. Just trying to get my extra work in: pregame, postgame, off days" Curry said. "Trying to do whatever I can to stay in shape, get my legs right. Nothing simulates a game but just wait my time, being positive with the guys on the bench. In practice. try to share my knowledge with the young guys whenever I can."

"Being around long enough, you know it's a long season," Curry said. "Everybody's going to get a chance to affect the team and tonight was a good chance for me to get my feet wet."

This isn't unfamiliar territory for Curry, who has been in every situation possible, from being a G Leaguer, to a benchwarmer in the NBA, to a starter on a championship contender, or just being known as Steph Curry's brother. So even though it's tough for him not being a consistent member of the Mavs' rotation, Curry knows who he is and what he brings to the table.

"Mentally, I know how I can affect the game. It's not always scoring," Curry said. "Just making the right plays, try to make it easier on my teammates. Being in the right spots on the defensive end, I think I've been doing that pretty well so I know eventually more touches, more minutes, shot are going to fall for me.

"Just a matter of always being positive with the team and doing what I can to affect winning," Curry said.

As Curry said, it's a long season, and there will be numerous occasions where his number is called to contribute, and as we all know Seth will be ready when those times come.
