Report: Draymond Green’s Volatility Has Worn On Several People Within Warriors Organization
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

According to NBA insider Zach Lowe of ESPN, Draymond Green‘s volatility has worn on several people within the Golden State Warriors organization.

Green punched Jordan Poole in the face last season. He also put Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock and struck Phoenix Suns big man Jusuf Nurkic in the head this season.

Green was ejected four times this season. The Warriors lost the 9-10 play-in tournament game to the Sacramento Kings. They will miss the playoffs for the third time in five years.

“They have a decision to make on Green, whose volatility has worn on several within the organization, sources said,” Lowe said. “But everyone within the team understands how good Green still is — one of the league’s best defenders, and an orchestrator of the Golden State motion offense who enjoys rare chemistry with Curry.

“Finding a team willing to trade significant future assets for Green would be tricky; he is owed $77 million over the next three seasons, and the rest of the league has watched the chaos of the past 24 months.”

The Warriors signed Green to a four-year, $100 million contract in July 2023. The four-time NBA champion will make $24.1 million next season.

One of the best defenders in NBA history, Green averaged 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks this season while shooting 49.7% from the field, 39.5% from beyond the arc and 73.0% from the free-throw line.

Green recorded 10 double-doubles and one triple-double in 52 games. The Warriors went 33-22 with Green in the lineup.

Golden State drafted Green with the 35th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Green has career averages of 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks. He has made four All-Star teams, eight All-Defensive teams and two All-NBA teams.

Green also won the 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year Award.

It will be fascinating to see what the Warriors do this summer. Green is 34 and Klay Thompson becomes an unrestricted free agent.
