Pistons booed by home fans during loss to equally woeful Wizards

And the Detroit Pistons lost to the Washington Wizards by a lot. This despite the fact the Pistons were playing at home and the Wizards entered the night with the record 2-14.

Of course, so did the Pistons.

Either way, Washington’s 126-107 victory on Monday had to feel really good for the Wizards, and really sting for Detroit.

It’s not surprising that the local fans booed the Pistons. If there’s a homecoming game on the schedule … well, this was supposed to be it.

Instead, the Pistons (now 2-15) have lost 14 straight, tying a franchise record. They get LeBron James and the Lakers next. So, good luck with all that.

Meanwhile, the Wizards (now 3-14) snapped a nine-game skid behind 32 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists from Kyle Kuzma.

Granted, not everybody can be good. In order to have true contenders, a sports league also has to have teams that stink. Truth is, the NBA may be more balanced with more potential champions and playoff teams than at any time in league history.

The Pistons just aren’t among them. The Wizards aren’t, either, but at least for the time being, they’re better than Detroit.

Anyway, despite all the losing, I actually enjoyed the game, with two teams both having some bright spots and hope for the future. Cade Cunningham, of course, is that man for the Pistons and he finished this one with 26 points and seven assists.

Maybe someday we will see these teams duking it out in the Eastern Conference finals. Now, though, the only thing they’re fighting for is not to be called the Least of the East.
