Pistons add much-needed sharpshooter in trade with Nets

After drafting athletic wing Ausar Thompson and four-year Houston Cougars guard Marcus Sasser in last week's NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons added another piece on Friday, per ESPN's Adrian Adrian Wojnarowski.

Veteran sharpshooter Joe Harris will find a new home in Detroit for his 10th NBA season after the Brooklyn Nets sent him away for two second-round draft picks.

Harris, who shoots 43.7 percent from three-point range for his career, will be a welcome addition to a Pistons team that ranked 22nd in the league in three-point percentage last season. His shooting ability will make defenses respect his presence on the floor, thus taking some pressure off of up-and-coming guards Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.

At 31, Harris has experience and playoff pedigree that will also pair nicely with a youthful Pistons team that has an average age of under 24 and no players remaining from the club's most recent playoff appearance in 2019.

Harris spent the first two seasons of his NBA career playing sparingly for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and was present for its 2015 NBA Finals run. After missing all but five games in the 2015-16 season due to a foot injury, he spent seven seasons as a starter for the Nets, playing more than 20 minutes per game in each of his seasons in Brooklyn.

In 2019, Harris won the NBA Three-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend, outshooting Stephen Curry and Buddy Hield in the final round.

On the other end of the deal, the Nets stash some draft picks as they prepare for a retooling of their roster following the midseason trades of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant last season. The move also frees up Harris' $18.6 million contract for 2023-24, allowing Brooklyn to be more aggressive in free agency.
