The Philadelphia 76ers had no business winning Game 5 against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. The home crowd at Madison Square Garden was already preparing to pop the champagne with their team up six points with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game.
And then, Tyrese Maxey happened.
Down 3-1 in the series, the Sixers were on the brink of elimination. Maxey, however, had other plans. The All-Star guard hit a miracle four-point play to cut down New York’s deficit to just two points:

Josh Hart then went on to miss one of his two free throws on the succeeding play to give the Knicks a three-point advantage. New York elected not to foul, which turned out to be a major mistake.

How cold was that?
The Sixers would go on to steal the win in overtime with Maxey finishing with a playoff career-high 46 points, to go along with five rebounds, nine assists, and seven triples in 52 minutes of action. AMAZING.
After the game, Maxey shared his honest thoughts on his overtime-forcing miracle three. The 23-year-old revealed that it was no fluke as this is a shot that he’s been working hard to incorporate into his arsenal:
“It’s just a lot of reps,” he said. “… (Sixers assistant coach Rico Hines) been on me all year about shooting deep ones and I’ve been working on it all year.”
