Pelicans, Hawks engaged in Dejounte Murray trade talks

It's NBA trade deadline day and the biggest fish in the sea, Hawks All-Star guard Dejounte Murray, could be a member of the New Orleans Pelicans imminently.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hawks and Pelicans are engaged in trade talks over Murray, following previous reports of the Lakers and Knicks also pursuing the guard.

Speaking on "TheWojPod" early on Thursday, Wojnarowski noted that the Pelicans have emerged as the latest team that has piqued the Hawks front office’s interest.

"I do think there's another team that has piqued Atlanta's interest and vice versa, and that's New Orleans," said Wojnarowski, via RealGM. "There's been some conversations. I don't know if they've elevated quite yet. I think there maybe could be some more here leading to the trade deadline on a deal that I don't think would include CJ McCollum. I think it would be Dejounte Murray with him."

If the Pelicans hold onto their big three of Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum, they could potentially build a package around Herb Jones ($12 million) or Larry Nance Jr. ($10.3 million) along with a combination of first-round picks and young assets, both of which they have an abundance of.

Some of the young assets the Hawks could covet include Trey Murphy III, Jordan Hawkins and Dyson Daniels. Hawkins has impressed many with his impressive rookie outing, averaging 9.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in just 20.7 minutes.

Woj added that the Pelicans would be interested in acquiring Onyeka Okongwu along with Murray.

The NBA trade deadline is 3 p.m. ET on Thursday.
