Nets rookie Dariq Whitehead has shin surgery, done for season
John Jones-USA TODAY Sports

Brooklyn Nets first-round draft choice Dariq Whitehead will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his left shin Monday.

The team said the procedure carries "an expected recovery period of approximately three months," and the forward is expected to be ready to participate in Brooklyn's offseason program.

Whitehead, 19, played in just two games for the Nets this season, averaging 1.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists across 12.0 minutes per game. He also played in 17 total games for G League affiliate Long Island.

Whitehead, the 22nd overall pick out of Duke last June, has also undergone two foot surgeries, one before his lone season of college basketball and another before the draft.
