The Minnesota Timberwolves were supposed to be the underdogs against the Denver Nuggets. The defending champions have the advantage in playoff experience, already winning it all last season.
While some analysts and fans believed the Timberwolves had what it takes to make it to the Finals, none of those people thought that the Timberwolves would cruise past the defending champs.
However, the Timberwolves were able to wrestle away the advantage from Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns were crucial in the team’s impressive Game 2 win.
Edwards and Towns were the most impressive players for the Timberwolves throughout their 106-80 triumph. They were able to impose their will on the game, both finishing with 27 points apiece.
KAT more than held his own down low, grabbing 12 rebounds, notching one steal, and rejecting one shot attempt. Meanwhile, Ant-Man continues showing his two-way versatility with two boards, seven dimes, and two steals.
The key factor for the team’s Game 2 win is the incredible performance of the supporting cast. Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 14 points each from the bench, ensuring that the team would remain on the lead even if the team had to sit out either of their star players.
On the other hand, the Denver Nuggets were struggling to make their shot against Minnesota. Nikola Jokic was noticeably struggling against the Timberwolves, finishing the night with only 16 points on 5-for-13 shooting.
However, no one takes more responsibility for the team’s loss than Jamal Murray. The Blue Arrow had an impotent shooting night, finishing with only eight points on an abysmal 3-for-18 shooting and sinking none of his four three-point attempts.
The Nuggets have plenty of issues to address ahead of Game 3. What makes things worse is that they’ll now play the next two games of the series in front of a hostile crowd and a supremely confident Anthony Edwards.
