Minnesota Timberwolves: Anthony Edwards Has 1 Plea Amid Michael Jordan Comparisons
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Seeing Anthony Edwards dominate the playoffs this year has given fans a performance similar to Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, But just recently, the Minnesota Timberwolves star pleaded with everyone to stop comparing him to MJ because it’s not possible at all.

In the first round between Minnesota and the Phoenix Suns, Edwards put up an insane show for everyone. In the span of four games, the All-Star shooting guard averaged 31.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest. He also connected 51 percent of his field goals, 43 percent from beyond the perimeter, and 83 percent from the free-throw line.

In the end, Edwards and the Timberwolves swept the Suns in a dominant fashion, shocking everybody in the league. And while Phoenix had its own set of issues that led them to fail, fans expected the Denver Nuggets to put up a better fight than the Kevin Durant-led team.

But after two games in the series, Edwards just got better. In Game 2 and without Rudy Gobert in the lineup, Ant-Man led the Timberwolves with 27 points, two rebounds, and seven assists. Along with Karl-Anthony Towns’ impressive double-double, Minnesota went home with the 106-80 win over Denver.

Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards Pleads With Fans Not To Compare Him With Michael Jordan

With the T-Wolves two games ahead of the heavily-favored Nuggets, everyone has started claiming Edwards as the second coming of Michael Jordan. For his part, the All-Star guard pleaded not to make that comparison in an article written by Melissa Rohlin for Fox Sports.

“I want it to stop,” the 22-year-old Edwards told FOX Sports. “He’s the greatest of all time. I can’t be compared to him,” Rohilin wrote.

In comparison, Jordan’s playoff averages in his fourth season in the NBA is near Edwards’ numbers this year. During the 1988 postseason, His Airness tallied 36.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.4 steals in 10 games. These stats are eerily similar to Edwards at the same period of their respective careers in the league.

As it stands, Edwards displayed an unexpected level of humility and maturity when he deferred to Jordan as the better player than him. As a result, more people have gravitated to him in recent days for the potential to be the league’s next face he has shown. Nevertheless, Edwards now has a case to be compared to MJ after a stellar showing in the regular season and the playoffs.
