Marc Gasol's time with Lakers likely over due to DeAndre Jordan signing?

Marc Gasol hasn't necessarily had a great stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, and he might be headed out the door before the 2021-22 campaign begins.

According to The Athletic's Jovan Buha, Gasol's time with the Lakers is likely over following the report that DeAndre Jordan intends to sign with the 2020 champions after finalizing a buyout with the Detroit Pistons.

"One offseason after veering off the strategy that helped them win the 2020 championship, the Lakers are once again investing in size and athleticism at the center position, adding Jordan to a mix that already features Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard," Buha writes. "The signing likely spells the end of Marc Gasol's tenure with the Lakers, as there is a clear logjam at the position and Gasol was already considering not returning."

Gasol still has one year remaining on his contract with the Lakers, but with all the offseason additions, he might not want to stick around in a lesser bench role.

There was already tension last season when the Lakers made a move for Andre Drummond. With Jordan's arrival and Howard also available, Gasol wouldn't get much playing time.

The Spaniard is coming off the worst season of his career, averaging five points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 45.4% from the field for the Lakers.

It's unclear which teams might be interested in Gasol. Regardless, the Lakers could try to leverage him in a deal to get a solid depth piece back as they're looking to avenge their 2021 first-round playoff loss and reach the finals again next season.

L.A. has already added Howard, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore, Malik Monk, Kendrick Nunn and Rajon Rondo this offseason. What's stopping the franchise from adding even more depth?
