LeBron James NBA championship jersey sells for millions at auction

The jersey LeBron James wore in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals sold at auction this week for $3.68 million, according to Sotheby's auction house.

According to TMZ Sports, the jersey was purchased by a private collector

When the jersey initially went to auction it was expected that the price tag could exceed the $3 million mark, which it ultimately did. That price tag makes it the most expensive James jersey ever sold, and one of the most expensive jerseys for any athlete.

The previous high mark for a James jersey was $660,000 for a 2020 NBA All-Star jersey.

James wore this particular jersey during the Miami Heat's 98-88 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals. Along with winning his second NBA title in that game, he also won his second NBA Finals MVP award. Jame finished that game with 37 points and 12 rebounds.

Just for some additional context on the price tag, the two most expensive jerseys ever sold by Sotheby's have been a game-worn Michael Jordan jersey that went for over $10 million in September, as well as Diego Maradona's "hand of God" jersey which sold for $9.3 million.
