LA Clippers Reportedly Make New Roster Move
USA TODAY Sports

Having pushed his contract guarantee date back as far as they could, the LA Clippers finally made the decision to waive point guard Jason Preston, per Andrew Greif of the LA Times. Today was the final day for the Clippers to make a decision on Preston's contract, and the team will reportedly waive the 33rd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

This news does not come as much of a surprise, as Preston didn't seem to have any real path to a roster spot with the Clippers. That said, the possibility of guaranteeing his contract and including it in a trade was there, but no such deal developed.

This trims the Clippers' roster down to the maximum 15 players they can bring into the new season; however, a trade between now and then could of course still occur. With Jrue Holiday landing with the Boston Celtics, it seems Malcolm Brogdon (likely to be dealt again from the Portland Trail Blazers) or James Harden are LA's remaining options if they're still looking to add an impact guard.

While it's really a power forward the Clippers need to add, trading for an impact guard could allow them to slide Kawhi Leonard up one spot to address the power forward situation that way. As of right now, the Clippers have yet to make that big trade as media day is now less than 24 hours away.
