Kendrick Perkins comments on the Milwaukee Bucks firing of Adrian Griffin
USA TODAY Sports

Kendrick Perkins played 14 seasons in the NBA, so he has a unique perspective on the comings and goings in the league. On Tuesday, when news of the Milwaukee Bucks’ dismissal of head coach Adrian Griffin rang out, Perk shared he wasn’t surprised as he saw this development happening as early as training camp.

Not shocking

With an impressive 30-13 record, the Bucks hold the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. However, despite this gaudy record, underlying issues eroded the confidence of the Bucks' front office in Griffin. Whether it was the team’s stunning drop from an elite defensive squad to a bottom-tier unit or the lack of flow on offense, Adrian had his work cut out for him.

"Did they fire their head coach before the all-star break?" Perkins said.

"That’s what you’re telling me? A team that’s 30-13."

Of those issues, it’s the Bucks’ defense, or lack thereof, that stands out like a sore thumb.

"The writing has been on the wall since the start of the season," Perkins added.

"When you look at the Bucks defense, it has been horrible. So bad that when I’m watching the game with my kids, I make them go to bed 'cause I don’t want them to see that type of defensive effort."

Never really established himself

While a team like the Bucks may have numerous veterans who can speak their minds at a moment’s notice, the head coach still sets the tone for the team. According to Perkins, Griffin never really had the complete attention of the locker room from the get-go.

"Adrian Griffin never had a voice and never had the locker room from the start of training camp, and now we’re seeing this happening, which is still surprising," Perkins shared.
