Jimmy Butler Has Bold Statement As Heat Trail 3-1 vs. Nuggets
Rich Storry-USA TODAY Sports

After the Miami Heat lost Game 4 of the 2023 NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets to go down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series, Jimmy Butler was asked to talk about the team’s mentality moving forward.

“Same thing it’s always been,” Butler said. “It’s one game at a time. Now we are in a must-win situation every single game, which we’re capable of. Some correctible things we’ve got to do, but it’s not impossible. We’ve got to go out there and do it. We’ve got three to get.”

The Heat lost Game 4 by a final score of 108-95. Butler finished with 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 45 minutes while shooting 9-of-17 from the field, 1-of-3 from beyond the arc and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Only one team in NBA history has come back from a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals. That was the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers team led by LeBron James.

“No doubt. We don’t have any of that,” Butler said. “We don’t have no quit. We are going to continually fight, starting tomorrow, to get better. And then we are going into Monday and do what we said we were going to do this entire time and win. We have to. We have no other choice. Otherwise, we did all this for no reason. The guys know. We know. We’ve got something to do.”

The Heat won Game 2 in Denver against the Nuggets, so they are capable of winning in the Mile-High City. Butler is averaging 21.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.8 assists in the Finals against the Nuggets.

“I think we really do believe in one another and ourselves as individuals,” Butler said. “We’ve done some hard things all year long in this playoff run as well, and now it’s like the hardest of the hard. But like we always say, you know, the things that you want is on the other side of hard is, I don’t know what.”
