Insane Kyrie Irving closeout stat will please Mavericks fans

Irving led the way for the Mavericks in the clinching Game 6 of this series. The guard poured in 30 points, and also finished with six rebounds and four assists in the contest. The team needed all of those points, as star Luka Doncic struggled with some cold shooting in the game. Irving said that the two players have a special bond that allows them to work well together.

“There’s no primary, secondary, we are one team,” Irving said. “We succeed together, we fail together.” The two stars are certainly going to be expected to provide a lot of offense for the team as it moves forward in the Western Conference Playoffs. The Mavericks now advance to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Irving’s playoff performance

Irving’s 13-0 closeout record in the playoffs is truly a remarkable feat. The guard has gotten the job done with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets, and Boston Celtics before coming to Dallas. The veteran has only one NBA Championship, taken as a member of the Cavaliers in 2016. Irving is surely hoping that he can improve those playoff stats even more by getting another ring this year.

On the season, the guard is averaging close to 26 points a game. He is shooting almost 50 percent from the field, and having a great season from the three-point line with a 41 percent average. That’s his best mark shooting from the perimeter since the 2021-22 season, when he was playing for the Nets.

Irving certainly seemed inspired playing against the Clippers. The guard played a heavy load of minutes in all six games of the series, while scoring in double figures in each contest. Irving scored at least 30 points three times, including in the pivotal Game 6 which gave him yet another closeout victory.

“I just got to get there to that point to be able to be ready to have the other team submit,” Irving said, per ESPN. “One of the hardest things to do as a competitor is to have your opponent concede or submit. And I do want to take this time to give respectful shoutout and also show my respect to the Clippers organization and the players. It’s always fun, and they got me better.”

The Mavericks and Thunder start their playoff series on Tuesday in Oklahoma City. The game tips off at 9:30 Eastern.
