Adrian Wojnarowski reported that former Illinois Basketball Star, Malcolm Hill, has signed a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. Hill has been playing with the Birmingham Squadron, the G-league affiliate of the Pelicans. He has put up some impressive numbers and has had a solid season in the G-league thus far. This will be Hill’s second stint in the NBA. A few years ago, Malcolm played his way to a short-term deal with the Atlanta Hawks. He was then able to hitch onto the Chicago Bulls for approximately half of a season.
Since being waived, Malcolm has been trying his hand with the NBA summer league and G-league teams. It will be nice to see him hopefully get a shot for a lengthier contract. Hill is averaging 25.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in his past 10 games with the G-league Affiliate.
Malcolm Hill was a prominent name for Illinois Basketball fans who went to the school in the mid-2010’s. Malcolm poured his heart and soul into trying to will the Illinois basketball program into the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately, Hill never played in March Madness. However, he left a pretty robust legacy and left Illinois Basketball as the third-leading scorer in the program’s history. Ever since graduating in 2017, Malcolm played a few years overseas until he suffered a pretty significant knee injury. Despite the knee injury, Malcolm continues to add to his game. His 3-point shooting may not be the prettiest form, however, it has shown to be effective.
King of the Hill! Congrats to @GleagueSquadron star Malcolm Hill on being named G League Player of the Week. The 6'6 forward averaged 34.7 PPG and 9.0 RPG on 63-54-94 shooting splits to lead his team to a 3-0 record. This includes a franchise record 44 points vs. Iowa. pic.twitter.com/S2bUrRLccD
