Former Clippers Guard Joins Western Conference Rival
USA TODAY Sports

The LA Clippers recently waived 2021 2nd round pick Jason Preston, and the young point guard has already found a new home. It was announced on Monday morning that the Memphis Grizzlies would be signing Preston, presumably to a contract for the remainder of training camp. In their announcement, Memphis wrote the following:

"The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team signed guard Jason Preston and wing Timmy Allen. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. In addition, the Grizzlies waived forward Matthew Hurt and guard Mychal Mulder. Preston (6-3, 181) appeared in 37 games (33 starts) for the Ontario Clippers last season during the NBA G League Showcase and regular season and averaged 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 32.8 minutes. The Orlando native also saw action in 14 games during his NBA rookie campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers and averaged 2.9 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 8.8 minutes. Selected with the 33 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the 24-year-old was named to the 2020-21 All-MAC First Team as a junior at Ohio."

Injuries set Preston back to start his NBA career, and he was never able to get an extended look on a Clippers team with several veterans ahead of him. While the Grizzlies have a similar situation at point guard, perhaps a solid showing from Preston in the remainder of camp can earn him another shot at the NBA level.
