Domantas Sabonis, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic Make History
Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

While triple-doubles have become more prevalent in the NBA given the rapid pace many teams play, it is still not an easy thing to achieve. Players such as Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets make it seem easier than it is.

Sabonis is on a record-setting pace for double-doubles this season, as the last time he didn’t record one was November 29th. Since that point, he has reeled off 58 consecutive double-doubles while recording 26 triple-doubles on the season.

Jokic, who is the odds-on favorite to win the NBA MVP award for a third time this season, has taken his performance to another level as well. He is second in the league this season with 23 triple-doubles, as he recorded his most recent one this week against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Second in the MVP voting in many people’s opinions is Doncic. He recorded his 20th triple-double of the season on Tuesday in a loss to the Golden State Warriors. Doncic was named Western Conference Player of the Month in March and averaged a triple-double through 15 games.

Sabonis, Jokic and Doncic will now forever be connected for the rest of their careers. That is because, according to NBA History on X, this is the first time that three players have recorded 20+ triple-doubles in a single season.

What those three players have accomplished this season is a special achievement. These aren’t empty stats they are compiling every night either. All three players are on teams with winning records that are fighting for spots in a loaded Western Conference.

If they continue playing at the levels that they have to this point, opponents will be hard-pressed to defeat them and keep them out of the NBA Playoffs.
