Celtics interested in Carmelo Anthony after Danilo Gallinari injury?

Carmelo Anthony is one of the best offensive players available on the market in the NBA right now.

Last season, in his lone campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers, he averaged 13.3 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting from the field and 37.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc. By any objective measure, he is a reliable and consistent offensive spark plug off the bench at this point in his career.

Understandably, there has been no shortage of interest in his services. To date, two teams have been viewed as front-runners to sign him.

This week, a new squad jumped into the fray.

“Carmelo Anthony has been considered a potential signee by the Boston Celtics in recent days following Danilo Gallinari’s suffered torn meniscus in his left knee on Saturday, I’m told,” reported NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.

Anthony could be a tremendous pickup for a Celtics squad that came within two games of winning a championship last year.

The East will be competitive with a presumably healthy and active Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets, as well as an extremely in-shape James Harden and Joel Embiid on the Philadelphia 76ers. That is to say nothing of the Miami Heat, another top contender in the East.

Anthony has made it clear that he would be willing to leave the Lakers for one team, and it isn’t the Celtics. Could Boston bring something to the table that would change his mind?
