Most players who go undrafted and sign a two-way deal are fighting for playing time anywhere they can get it. This was the case for Craig Porter Jr. after the Cleveland Cavaliers signed him following the 2023 NBA Draft.

Porter Jr. has now appeared in eight games for the Cavaliers and has made quite an impact in the opportunities given to him. The rookie is doing a little bit of everything as he averaging 6.5 points, 1.9 assists, and almost one steal a game.

The best game of Porter's career was on Sunday evening in which he scored 21 points, grabbed four boards, and dished out four assists.

Yes, Porter is still on a two-way deal but he's playing like someone who belongs in an NBA rotation. How high of a ceiling does he truly have?

One of his biggest strengths is how in control Porter Jr. always is. His head is always up looking for the open man and this is reflected in the assist numbers. Porter is doing all of this while averaging less than one turnover a game which is crucial for a point guard.

Porter's ability to get to the basket also gives him a lot of promising potential. He's shooting 62.5% on shots less than 10 feet from the rim and 69.2% of his points coming in the paint. This is certainly solid efficiency, but could also point to the rookie guard's biggest weakness.

The largest flaw in Craig's game right now is his long-range shooting. He's only attempted one three this season which failed to hit the mark. Porter only shot 35% from three on two attempts a night in college so it's never been a big part of his game.

Defenses are going to start guarding Porter off the ball, limiting his driving lane, once they realize he's hesitant to shoot.

Right now, Craig Porter Jr.'s ceiling appears to be a solid backup point guard and there's already proof he can do that. That potential could easily rise if he can develop a reliable outside shot.
