Brooklyn Nets Reportedly Sign Former 1st Round Pick
USA TODAY Sports

Lonnie Walker spent this past season playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and averaged 11.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 44.8% from the field and 36.5% from the three-point range in 56 games.

On Sunday afternoon, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the former Miami star will sign a one-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets.

Via Wojnarowski: "Free agent Lonnie Walker has agreed to a one year deal with the Brooklyn Nets, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Lucas Newton tell ESPN."

Walker was initially the 18th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs and was with the franchise for the first four seasons of his pro-career.

The 24-year-old has career averages of 9.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest while shooting 42.2% from the field and 34.9% from the three-point range in 264 regular season games.

He has also played in 19 NBA Playoff games and helped the Lakers reach the 2023 Western Conference Finals (the Denver Nuggets swept them).

The Nets are currently in an interesting spot as a franchise because they entered the 2022-23 season as contenders with All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant on the roster.

During the year, they traded both superstars away but still made the NBA Playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference (they were swept in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers).

Walker will likely have a chance to play a significant role on next year's team.
