5 NBA Teams Interested In Signing Rudy Gay

Five NBA teams are interested in signing Rudy Gay, who is an unrestricted free agent after getting waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans are interested in Gay’s services.

“Veteran forward Rudy Gay is expected to draw interest from several playoff-caliber teams, including the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, and New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.

Gay played for the Utah Jazz last season. He averaged 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 56 games while shooting 38.0% from the field, 25.4% from beyond the arc and 85.7% from the free-throw line. Gay was healthy last season minus a finger joint sprain that sidelined him for two weeks.

The 36-year-old Gay has career averages of 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 1,120 games with the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Jazz. Utah traded Gay to Atlanta in the John Collins trade. The Hawks then sent the forward to the Thunder.

The Lakers and Warriors are title contenders, while the Mavericks, Bulls and Pelicans all missed the 2023 playoffs. It will be interesting to see where Gay is playing next season. Over the last few years of his career, the 17-year veteran has developed into primarily a power forward.

The Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Finals in four games after beating the Warriors in the semifinals in six games. The Mavericks were so bad last season that they didn’t even qualify for the play-in tournament, while the Bulls lost the 8-9 play-in game to the Miami Heat and the Pelicans lost the 9-10 play-in game to the Thunder.
