NASCAR analyst brands Jimmie Johnson’s 2024 season as 'awful and miserable'

Seven times NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson made his NASCAR return in 2023, after his two years stint in the IndyCar, as a minority owner and driver at Petty GMS Racing, which was later rebranded as Legacy Motor Club. While he has made some big progress as a team owner, with the move to Toyota from Chevy, as a racer his outings has been huge disappointments.

Since joining LMC, Jimmie Johnson has started six races in the last two years. Half of his finishes in those events has been outside the top-30 and the best finish ever with the team was P28, which he scored at 2024 Daytona 500 and in Dover race last Sunday. Many in the racing community and the fans are hugely disappointed with the streak.

While talking about the HMS legends performance racing analyst of the Barstool Sports Rubbin Is Racing podcast, Quigs, pointed out that Jimmie Johnson has been pretty awful so far this season, if he seen as a driver who is looking to get back to winning ways. It seems Quigs like many NASCAR fans seems pretty disappointed with the fall of Johnson.

I just think he wants to compete. If it was an actual season of a driver that really is trying to win, he really is having an awful season. And a miserable one. Quigs said via Rubbin Is Racing podcast.

Quigs while further talked about how bad the races have been playing out for Johnson and pointed out that even the last week’s race at Dover, which see him finishing six laps down was the first race in long time where he didn’t get caught in any incidents. He asserted that this isn’t a level the No:84 Camry driver doesn’t want to be at.

The way he's been out early in a lot of the races he has ran. He's got his own teammates taking him out in some of them. And last weekend, I don't think he had any real issues, or got caught up in any wrecks. I just look at one point and he's like five, six laps down. That is not the level where Jimmie Johnson wants to be competing at. Quigs said.

Johnson had a good start for this weekends race at Kansas, which is marking his 4^th start of the 2024 season, with a P19 finish in the qualifying. He would be hoping to capitalize on it and secure a solid finish to end the poor streak, while putting LMC back in a good spot.
