Kyle Busch breaks down 'impossible but not near impossible' challenges ahead of him at Texas Cup race
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch came to the Texas Motor Speedway, determined to end secure enough momentum to propel him back to championship contention after massive drop in performance in the last four race weeks. His dreams of a great day seem already in the mud as he wasn’t even able to have even a qualifying lap.

He crashed out during the practice session and wasn’t able to drive in the qualifying session. Kyle Busch will start the race on Sunday from P35 alongside Jimmie Johnson of legacy MC, who also crashed out during the practice. While talking about what is ahead of him on Sunday, the two times Cup champion admitted that it would hard for him to move up the track due to the passing issue at TMS.

Impossible but not near impossible. So, we’ll see, I don’t know. It’s just hard to pass here and you know, long runs take shape and if you can’t get yourself through traffic you can go a lap down in a hurry, have a long day. Kyle Busch told Bob Pockrass.

Texas is a track Busch has won four races in his career from 35 starts with all of his wins coming with Joe Gibbs Racing. But he hasn’t been hitting the mark at the track in the Next-Gen era. Since 2022, he has started three races and has the best finish of a P21, which came in a race that he started on pole. The practice session crash might be leading him on the same way.

Kyle Busch reveals what led to his crash

The No:8 Chevy team failed a fast car for Kyle Busch for the weekend, but it had significant balance issue. He had a fast couple of lap before the Chevy got tight and it resulted in him getting onto the wall. The team will now field the back-up car on Sunday for the veteran.

No. On edge already. … I wasn’t at 100%, that’s for sure. Car had speed but you know, 90% was already on edge, trying not to crash. Kyle Busch said.

The 2024 season so far has been a nightmare for Richard Childress Racing. They haven’t been competitive in any of the races and the execution on the pit-stops has been underwhelming for the team as well.  RCR needs a moment of brilliance from the drivers or the engineers that would enables them to crack the code on what is wrong with the team.
