Dale Earnhardt Jr. calls out NASCAR for disparity in caution calls at Bristol
Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

The NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday was eventful race with tier wear taking the center stage. Combination of the tire compound Goodyear gave NASCAR and the resin that was applied on the track before the race caused massive tire wear. Rubber fall of were forming marbles instead of getting laid down on the track, hence the process of fall of was accelerated.

NASCAR realized as soon as the race started that they won’t have enough tires for everyone to pit as much as they want in the race. The load of tires Goodyear supplied for the race wasn’t enough as teams started taking tires to the garage one after another. Hence NASCAR supposedly decided to be little lenient on calling cautions, as if the yellow flag was waved most driver would pit.

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. wasn’t impressed by this move as he believed this could have put drivers at risk.  But he also acknowledged the tough situation NASCAR found themselves in as he pointed out that if a conservative approach was taken and caution was called evry-time they would’ve ran out of tires and there would chaos on the pit-road.

That’s a tough situation they’re in because they’re out of tires they didn’t have enough tires to finish the race so they didn’t want to throw yellows because they knew people were going to come down pit road and put on tires and then they definitely were going to run out of tires so it was a tough situation they didn’t want it to turn into a sh*t show but they also knew they couldn’t throw a ton of yellow. Dale Earnhardt Jr. details why such races are frustrating

Junior while further talking about the drama pointed out that for teams such moved and uncertainty over decisions from NASCAR during the race is pretty frustrating. As a team owner and former driver, Junior knowns a thing or few about how frustrating the situation is.

This is what’s frustrating about these races were there are some things that’s frustrating about it if you’re on a pit box you know NASCAR is going to alter their you know NASCAR whether they want to believe it or not they call yellow’s differently in certain races for different reasons right for different reasons right? Junior said.

Regardless of all the frustrating thing, Dale Jr. has also highlighted some big positives as well. Though a bit extreme the tier wear is the right path ahead in fixing the Next-Gen cars’ short track racing issues for NASCAR. He reckons NASCAR can come-up with some solution to solve the issues after Bristol experience.
