Alex Bowman isn’t worried about his seat at Hendrick Motorsports: ‘They have faith in me’
Alex Bowman ? Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Bowman has become sort of the forgotten man at Hendrick Motorsports, as Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott and William Byron have lead the charge over the last two seasons.

Some have theorized Bowman could be living on borrowed time in the No. 48, with young stars in the pipeline and the potential of veteran drivers elsewhere being freed from their contracts. Regardless, Bowman isn’t worried about that.

Bowman’s confident he’s in a strong place with Hendrick, as well as the No. 48’s sponsor Ally, while hoping to get back to the status-quo for the team.

“No, definitely not,” Bowman said regarding whether he’s worried about his seat at Hendrick, via Kelly Crandall of RACER. “Mr. Hendrick and [primary sponsor] Ally have made it super clear that they have faith in me.

“I don’t think the outside sometimes sees the whole picture of everything that’s going on. We’ve fought a lot of different things, and I think we’re all doing everything we can to get better.”

While Bowman hasn’t reached Victory Lane since the 2022 Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas, he’s looked strong thus far in 2024, racking up a P2 finish in the Daytona 500, and a P4 finish at Bristol this past weekend.

Additionally, he’s finished P3, P2 and P8 over the last three seasons at COTA, where NASCAR is headed to this weekend.

One person who hasn’t lost his confidence in Bowman is his crew chief, Blake Harris. The duo has found success in the past, and they’re still a strong team, even if Harris relented the fact that the past two seasons have been sort of a struggle.

“I love working with him,” Harris said. “No, it hasn’t gone the way we’ve wanted, but we’ve had opportunities to win races. We might not be where we want to be every week, but we’ve had plenty of times we’ve been in the mix, and things just haven’t fallen our way.

“When it does click and it does go our way, I think it’ll be fine, and we can get on a roll.”

Alas, the ball is in Bowman’s court. The driver of the No. 48 recognizes that, and he’s confident the team can continue to be among the best in NASCAR this season, in true comeback season fashion.

“We’re doing all we can to get back to where we need to be, but the potential is definitely there,” Bowman added. “I think Blake and I work well together, and everybody gives us all the tools we need to be successful. It’s just been a rough go of it. There’s no reason why we can’t turn it around.”

Time will tell, but COTA couldn’t come at a better time for Alex Bowman. We’ll see if the No. 48 can get back to Victory Lane in Austin, or soon afterwards in 2024.
