The Sept. 12 UFC on ESPN+ 35 card has a new main event.
ESPN's Ariel Helwani was the first to report that a strawweight bout between Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill has been bumped up to the headliner fight of that evening and a five-round contest. Glover Teixeira vs. Thiago Santos, the show's original main event, was postponed to Oct. 3 after Teixeira tested positive for the coronavirus.
MMA Junkie confirmed the news later on Friday.
Waterson (17-8-0), affectionately known as the "Karate Hottie," fell to former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk last October and then lost a split decision to Carla Esparza in May.
Hill (12-8-0) was on a three-fight win streak until she controversially dropped a split decision to Claudia Gadelha in May. Thirteeb of 17 media members mentioned on MMA Decisions scored that contest in favor of Hill.
UFC on ESPN+ 35 will occur at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nev., behind closed doors and without fans due to the coronavirus pandemic.
