Jorge Masvidal has never been a UFC champion, but he'll be paid like one, according to his agent.
The deal he signed Thursday is "one of the most lucrative deals in the history of the company, and we are proud to say he'll end his career with the UFC," Masvidal's agent Malki Kawa told ESPN's Ariel Helwani. While details of the contract weren't revealed, Kawa wrote on Instagram that it will make Masvidal one of the top five highest paid fighters in the UFC.
Masvidal, 37, made his professional MMA debut in 2003 and joined the UFC in 2013. His breakthrough came in 2019 when he recorded back-to-back devastating knockouts against Darren Till and Ben Askren followed by a stoppage victory over Nate Diaz. Since then, though, Masvidal has only fought twice and lost both to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
He's set to headline UFC 272 on Saturday against friend-turned-enemy Colby Covington, who lost to Usman in two of his last three fights.
Masvidal has a 35-15 record as a professional and a 12-8 record in the UFC.
