How Michael Chandler Can Shock the World
Jessica Alcheh-USA TODAY Sports

Okay, so beating a UFC fighter who hasn’t fought since 2021 isn’t the most shocking thing in the world. After all, ring rust is a thing and most fighters will get it. However, that doesn’t mean Michael Chandler (23-8) can’t make a name for himself.

After all, Conor McGregor is one of the biggest names in the promotion. His presence and persona are larger than life, lending credence to his popularity. Plus, he’s still got some fight in him, with hard-hitting fists and agility.

Therefore, beating McGregor would make Chandler a household name. But how can the 37-year-old shock the world? What must he do to permanently shut the Irishman up at UFC 303?

Looking at Michael Chandler’s Profile

The Missouri native isn’t afraid to take big swings at his opponents. He’ll go on a furious attack, pushing his opponent back. Of course, he isn’t going to do this willy-nilly, for Michael Chandler is a patient fighter. Look at his fight against Dustin Poirier.

Throughout the fight, Chandler put Poirier on the defensive, working him into a corner whenever he could. With numerous strikes, he can wear down the opponent and break him down.

The Adjustments Michael Chandler Must Make

However, that aggression can prove to be a double-edged sword. As the fight went on, Michael Chandler wore down, providing Poirier with the opportunity to strike back. That’s what happened, with “The Diamond” submitting Chandler in the third round with a rear-naked choke.

Conor McGregor might run his mouth a lot. However, he isn’t a dummy. The Irishman will counter the Missouri native’s offensive with a strike to keep him off-balance. While going on the offensive sounds like a great thing, it can devastate a fighter like Chandler, specifically if the opponent is also sound defensively.

Therefore, the lightweight must learn to be patient against McGregor. Let “Notorious” make the first move and act accordingly. It’s a strategy employed by Alex Pereira, who’s made light work of his most recent opponents. If Chandler can take a step back and let McGregor come to him, he’ll shock the world at UFC 303.
