As part of the UFC's first pay-per-view of 2024, UFC 297, the first fighter who will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame during this year's International Fight Week was revealed.
The Class of 2024's first member will be none other than former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, the promotion confirmed with an announcement during the pay-per-view main card.

Edgar began his professional MMA career in 2005, going 6-0 in a period that included a win over fellow long-tenured UFC fan favorite Jim Miller before being signed to the UFC. Edgar made his UFC debut at UFC 67, scoring a unanimous decision win over Tyson Griffin.
Edgar's first loss came at the hands of a name he'd get very familiar with inside the Octagon — Gray Maynard. Edgar, however, rebounded with three straight wins before getting a major opportunity when he challenged B.J. Penn for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 112. In one of the promotion's greatest upsets, Edgar defeated Penn in Abu Dhabi to capture the title.
After defeating Penn in a rematch at UFC 118, Edgar and Maynard fought two more legendary contests. The two battled to a draw on New Year's Day in 2011 at UFC 125 before Edgar finally scored a win when he knocked out Maynard at UFC 136.
After dropping the lightweight title to Benson Henderson and losing a subsequent rematch, Edgar moved down to featherweight, unsuccessfully challenging José Aldo in a highly entertaining contest at UFC 156.
Though he'd come up short in that contest, as well as an interim title fight with Aldo at UFC 200 and a title bout with Max Holloway at UFC 240, Edgar scored victories over the likes of Charles Oliveira, Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, Yair Rodríguez, and Jeremy Stephens at 145 pounds.
Edgar even scored a win at bantamweight before the end of his career, earning a split decision over Pedro Munhoz in August 2020.
Edgar, a New Jersey native, retired following his loss to Chris Gutierrez at UFC 281 in November at Madison Square Garden.
