The Dustin Poirier next fight news is not likely to be revealed anytime soon. However, that just means we have the chance to speculate and play UFC matchmaker with “Diamond,” looking at possible opponents for him. Here are three possible opponents for Poirier along with a recap of his recent win over Benoit Saint Denis.

Who will Dustin Poirier next fight be against?

Seeing that Poirier was just in action, the UFC is not likely to announce his next scheduled fight for several weeks. However, the promotion is already booking events for this coming summer, so we could start to hear rumblings regarding a return to the Octagon. Three names that jump out as potential opponents for Poirier include former champions Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, along with a move up to welterweight to face Sean Brady.

  • Blessed: If Holloway is successful in claiming the “BMF” belt from Justin Gaethje, putting him against Poirier for a third time could be fun. The two last collided in 2019 with Holloway falling for a second time. The first meeting came in 2012 with Poirier earning a first-round submission victory in Holloway’s UFC debut.
  • Do Bronx: This would be another rematch, as Oliveira claimed a 2021 title defense with a third round submission over Poirier. Both fighters have looked strong since, and pairing them up again could make for a “Fight of the Night.”
  • Phighter: Brady would be the wild card of the three. It would also mark a move up to welterweight, which could lead to a quicker shot at the title. Over 17 fights, he owns 16 wins, including six inside the Octagon.

Coming in as the underdog despite his impressive track record, Poirier showcased all the exceptional skills that make him a fan favorite. After weathering the storm put on him by Saint Denis early, Poirier secured the impressive finish with his quick striking.

What happened: Maybe it was seeing all the doubters, or maybe Saint Denis felt too overconfident entering the fight. Either way, Poirier made sure he would be no gatekeeper for the lightweight division at UFC 299.

The fall out: It is an interesting time to be Dustin Poirier. As a former interim champion, he holds his name in high regard. Poirier has faced off with many of the top fighters, though, which also leaves him sort of looking for new challenges to prove his worth.

The roadmap: Unless something crazy happens, or injuries pop up, we are not likely to see Poirier fight for the title in the immediate future. He likely needs another big win to position himself in the role of No. 1 contender.
