Could Jorge Masvidal Return to the UFC Octagon?

For Jorge Masvidal, his main focus is his upcoming boxing match on June 1st against Nate Diaz. The two former UFC stars are lacing up the boxing gloves, preparing to let their fists do the talking. However, one of the fighters is leaving the door open for a UFC return.

Masvidal hasn’t ruled out a return to the octagon, saying “he’s definitely returning to the UFC.” After all, the Miami native has had an illustrious career in the promotion. He has the fastest knockout in UFC history (five seconds) and was one of the original UFC “BMF” Champions.

So could Masvidal return and make an impact at the UFC again? Fans would love to see “Gamebred” make one more run at the title. Whether it’s the middleweight or welterweight division, he can become a threat.

Why Jorge Masvidal Should Consider Returning

Jorge Masvidal (35-17) is an entertaining fighter. He won the “Fight of the Night” distinction three times during his UFC tenure, putting on eye-catching fights against Colby Covington and Darren Till. With victories over Nate Diaz, Donald Cerrone, and Ben Askren, Masvidal is an accomplished fight.

He was also acknowledged by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter as the “Mixed Martial Artist Most Valuable Player” (2019). When a fighter wins such an honorable distinction, he’s doing a great job beating up people. For “Gamebred,” he’s earned the privilege of being given the honor.

Why He Shouldn’t Return to the UFC

For one, Jorge Masvidal is 39 years old. UFC fans saw what happened to Holly Holm at UFC 300 against Kayla Harrison. The Albuquerque native was broken down and a shell of her former self. As a result, she was manhandled throughout the fight, with Dana White even calling for her retirement.

With Masvidal, he’s in the same situation. The Miami native has lost his last four MMA fights. Granted, it was against opponents like Covington and Usman. But Masvidal isn’t getting younger. He should consider retiring in his own right.

Regardless, a Jorge Masvidal return would be a nice nostalgia trip for hardcore UFC fans. But can he keep up and win another fight? Or will he extend his losing streak to five straight fights?
