One of these talented Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweights may be in shouting distance of a title shot with a win in this matchup.

Back in May, Instagram account MMA Fight Universe first posted of the renewed flyweight encounter between Alexa Grasso (14-3) and Viviane Araujo (11-3). The fight was initially set for UFC 270, but Araujo withdrew from the pairing due to an injury. Grasso has since confirmed the newly remade bout on Thursday on her Instagram Stories. They will come to blows at a currently unnamed UFC Fight Night event on Aug. 13, one that will likely go down inside of the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Grasso is currently riding the longest win streak of her UFC career, having claimed a pair of decisions over Ji Yeon Kim and Maycee Barber in 2020 and 2021, respectively, before tapping Joanne Wood in March. The rear-naked choke of Wood was her first finish since joining the roster in 2016, and her first overall stoppage since knocking out Alida Gray in 2014. It also marked the first time she had ever landed a submission.

Araujo rebounded from a 2021 decision loss to Katlyn Chookagian by taking a relatively one-sided decision over Andrea Lee that saw her pick up a 10-8 Round 2 on two official scorecards. In her last six outings, “Vivi” has left her fight in the hands of the judges, winning four over the likes of Alexis Davis and Roxanne Modafferi while falling short to Jessica Eye and the aforementioned Chookagian. The Brazilian did burst onto the scene in 2019 with a one-punch knockout of Talita Bernardo at UFC 237 in the bantamweight division.

There is currently no headliner announced for the UFC event on Aug. 13, and it is expected that Grasso-Araujo could serve as high as the co-main slot. Other key matchups on the card include a bantamweight battle between Aspen Ladd and Sara McMann, as well as a middleweight style matchup between submission specialist Gerald Meerschaert and striker Bruno Silva.
