Yankees Reportedly Bring Back Veteran Pitcher After Missing 2023 Season

The New York Yankees continue to make quiet moves to bolster the organization's depth.

New York has been looking for bullpen help recently and missed out on multiple top targets. At one point it seemed like Héctor Neris, Wandy Peralta, and Keynan Middleton all could sign with New York but all ended up getting deals elsewhere.

The Yankees have made a couple of intriguing moves to add to the bullpen but you can never have too many arms. New York knows this and continues to add and even seems to have brought back veteran pitcher Lou Trivino, according to the New York Post's Greg Joyce. 

"Lou Trivino, who underwent Tommy John surgery last May and was non-tendered by the Yankees in November, is here," Joyce said.

New York acquired Trivino in a trade with the Oakland Athletics in 2022 and he impressed in a small sample size. Trivino appeared in 25 games with the Yankees and had a minuscule 1.66 ERA and 22-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 21 2/3 innings pitched.

The veteran righty agreed to terms on a deal to avoid arbitration ahead of the 2023 campaign but suffered an elbow injury and missed the entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

The Yankees eventually non-tendered Trivino, but it seems like he's back with the club. While nothing is fully confirmed at this time, the fact that he's in camp with the team is a sign that he at least will have a minor-league deal.

If he's fully healthy, don't be surprised if he makes his way back to Yankee Stadium at some point in 2024.
