MLB won't hold a 'Field of Dreams' game in 2023

Why MLB won't hold a 'Field of Dreams' game in 2023

The "Field of Dreams" game has very quickly become one of the most fun events during the MLB season, and a reason to watch baseball in the dog days of August whether your favorite team is playing or not. But, sadly, the game held in Dyersville, Iowa will not be returning in 2023.

Mind you, this isn't because the event isn't popular. Hall of Famer Frank Thomas, who is also a partial owner of the location's ownership group, told the Des Moines Register this week the complex will undergo construction.

"It's a lot going on," the Big Hurt said. "They don't want to come back if the stadium's not prepared."

To be fair, construction and repairs to the facility fit the whole "if you build it, they will come" vibe originally installed by W.P. Kinsella in "Shoeless Joe" -- the 1982 novel that was adapted into the Kevin Costner film in 1989.  So if construction leads to another "Field of Dreams" game in 2024, surely fans won't mind too much.

In the meantime, baseball fanatics can enjoy the 2022 installment of the event between the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET.
