Watch: Cubs honor late former star Bill Buckner with moment of silence
Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs honored one of their own with a tribute to the late Bill Buckner prior to Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Buckner passed away last week, when the Cubs were on the road. In Chicago’s first home game since, Buckner, a former Cub, was honored with a moment of silence.

While Buckner played for five teams in his long and distinguished career, the best years came from 1977-1984 in Chicago. His best season came in 1980. He hit .324 that year to win the National League batting crown.

Overall, Buckner slashed at .300/.332/.439 with the Cubs. All of those totals easily eclipsed his numbers with any other team. Additionally, Buckner hit 81 of his 174 career home runs with Chicago.
