Watch: A's second baseman Tony Kemp makes web gem of the year candidate

Oakland Athletics second baseman Tony Kemp made a catch Tuesday that was so ridiculous that even he couldn't believe he made the play.

The A's were defending a 3-0 lead in the eighth inning when the Detroit Tigers' Jeimer Candelario hit a shot that looked like it would easily drop into shallow center field for a single. Instead, Kemp made a diving catch to end the inning.

Candelario's line drive had a .910 expected batting average based on its exit velocity and launch angle.

Kemp, 30, was acquired by Oakland in a January 2020 trade. In 2022, he's batting .232 with one home run and four RBIs. He's primarily played at second base this season, but Kemp has also played 12 games in the outfield.

Oakland held on to beat the Tigers, 4-1, after losing the first game of a doubleheader earlier in the day.
