TRENTON, N.J – Yankees prospect Slade Heathcott was brutally honest with the media at Tuesday’s Trenton Thunder Media Day at ARM & HAMMER Park. The 22-year-old 6-foot-1, 197-pound native of Texarkana, Texas, the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect according to Baseball America, spoke confidently and openly about where feels he is at present. “Every day is a struggle for me,’’ he admitted. “What helps are my faith in the man up above (he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior April 14, 2010) and my fiancé, Jessica Baumann.’’ “The man up above has taught me everything happens for a reason, and my fiancée keeps me in line, helps me out, and has shown me things I do not only affect me, but another person as well.’’ After batting .307 (66-for-215) at Class-A Advanced Tampa, and impressing many in the Arizona Fall League, Heathcott will be the starting center fielder when the Thunder, the Yankees’ Double-A farm team, open their 2013 Eastern League season at the Portland SeaDogs Thursday night.
