Top NL contender emerging as dark horse for Blake Snell?
Blake Snell Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Blake Snell may just end up with a team that is no stranger to Cy Young Award winners.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post said during an appearance Friday on “MLB Network” that he is not ruling out the Philadelphia Phillies from the race for Snell.

“They do want another big-time pitcher,” said Heyman of the Phillies. “They do better in free agency than just about everybody … Everybody they have signed, they have hit on. So I think the Phillies are a possibility there.”

Heyman did add though that the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels are still the teams that “make the most sense” for Snell right now.

The Phillies, who have made the NLCS in back-to-back years, have already done well for themselves on the starting pitching front this offseason. They brought back ace righty Aaron Nola on a staggering contract and are also making progress on an extension for another important arm.

The dynamic lefty Snell would add a dimension to the Phillies rotation that they still lack. Though it might be true that another team remains the front-runner for the reigning NL Cy Young winner, Philadelphia could just be entering the chat for Snell.
