Tigers interested in reunion with RHP Rick Porcello?

Rick Porcello is still on the market, and it appears at least one team is interested in his services.

According to MLB.com's Jon Morosi and Jason Beck, the Detroit Tigers are interested in a reunion with the free-agent right-hander. While the two sides remain far apart in negotiations, the Tigers believe Porcello can mentor young starters and eat some innings.

The 32-year-old spent six seasons with the Tigers from 2009-14 before being traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Yoenis Cespedes. He went 76-63 with a 4.30 ERA, 1.359 WHIP and 655 strikeouts in 1,073.1 innings.

Porcello spent the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with the New York Mets, going 1-7 with a 5.64 ERA, 1.508 WHIP and 54 strikeouts in 59 innings.

If he signs with Detroit, he'll join a rotation that includes Matthew Boyd, Spencer Turnbull, Michael Fulmer and Jose Urena.
