A former up-and-coming infielder of the Arizona Diamondbacks is on the move to another city to play for another team.

According to the Detroit Tigers’ Public Relations X (formerly Twitter) account, they have claimed second baseman Buddy Kennedy off of waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Selected by Arizona in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Kennedy played in two seasons with the D’Backs after spending time down in the minors.

During his rookie year in 2022, the New Jersey native went 18-for-83 (.217) at the plate, hit a home run and recorded 12 RBIs in 30 games.

Last season, Kennedy spent 10 games with Arizona as he was 4-for-24 (.167) with one RBI. On Sept. 6, the Diamondbacks designated the 25-year-old for assignment for now-former catcher Seby Zavala who was claimed off waivers.

Before 2023 concluded, Kennedy was claimed by the Oakland Athletics and was sent down to their Triple-A minor league affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators for 11 games.

The St. Louis Cardinals would then pick him up on waivers on Oct. 25, 2023, then designated for assignment once more on Wednesday.

Now, Kennedy will try to fight for his place in the MLB with the Tigers as the regular season is just around the corner.
