Only Quantrill’s role is known, as he’ll be a special assistant to baseball operations. It’s noted that Encarnación and Hentgen’s roles will be explored next month.

Encarnación spent eight seasons with the Blue Jays, playing 999 games and slashing .268/.355/.522 with 239 homers in 4203 plate appearances. Between 2012-2015, Encarnación slashed .272/.368/.544 with 193 homers in just 3133 plate appearances and was arguably the Jays best player.

After signing with Cleveland in 2017, he had three more productive seasons, with a 130 wRC+ in 2017, a 116 wRC+ in 2018, and a 130 wRC+ in 2019 (where he spent time with the Yankees). It’s worth noting that after he left, the Jays were entitled to a compensation pick, which they used to draft Nate Pearson.

Pat Hentgen was well before my time, but he had a 4.28 ERA and a 4.66 FIP in 1636 innings pitched with the Jays. This included winning the CY Young award in 1996, where he had a 3.22 ERA and a 3.94 FIP in 200.2 innings pitched. He retired as a Blue Jay in 2004.

Paul Quantrill spent six seasons with the Blue Jays, posting a 3.67 ERA and a 4.16 FIP in 517.2 innings pitched. The reliever made the 2001 all-star game in a season where he had a 3.04 ERA and a 3.24 FIP in 83 innings pitched. Surprisingly, that was not his best season as a Blue Jay, as he had a 1.94 ERA and a 3.19 FIP in 88 innings pitched in 1997.

Although their playing days are past them, it’s nice to have three club legends making a return to the organization in some capacity. Hopefully, José Bautista is under consideration as well!
