The New York Yankees are set to begin the ALDS tonight at home against the Cleveland Guardians.
New York will send staff ace Gerrit Cole to the mound for the series opener, while the Guardians counter with Cal Quantrill, the son of former Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill.
As the postseason moves into its next round, it’s worth noting that the Yankees may have a significant edge over some of the other teams.
Out of the eight remaining teams, they have the most postseason wins, sitting at 241 all-time.
The Los Angeles Dodgers sit in second behind them with 128 all-time postseason wins.
All time postseason wins by franchise:
Yankees: 241
Dodgers: 128
Braves: 100
Astros: 66
Guardians: 58
Phillies: 51
Mariners: 17
Padres: 16 pic.twitter.com/Ax81saYNhK— CBS Sports (@CBSSports) October 11, 2022
This could play into the Yankees favor.
Everybody knows what this team is capable of when October comes around.
They have the most postseason wins of any franchise in all of baseball, and they’ll be starting at home.
History is certainly on their side.
It’s also worth noting what took place the last time the Yankees and Guardians met in the postseason, back in 2017.
That year, the Yankees were a Wild Card team and met Cleveland, who had the best record in all of baseball, in the ALDS.
After dropping the first two games, the Yankees stormed back and won it in a deciding Game 5.
In that regard, the Yankees may have somewhat of an advantage.
But their history of winning games in the postseason, regardless of the opponent, should count for something as they prepare to start the ALDS against the Guardians.
It should be an exciting series, with a ton of great pitching matchups in store.
Game 1 is tonight at 7:37 p.m. Eastern Time.
Can the Yankees continue their postseason success, or will the Guardians have some magic tricks up their sleeves as the heavy underdogs.
