A baseball source has confirmed that Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng has been promoted to Double-A Altoona from High-A Greensboro.

As of now, INF Liover Peguero will stay put in Double-A and will move from shortstop to second base to get more reps at that position until the time comes for him to get the call-up.

Cheng has been batting extremely well for High-A Greensboro since he started there at the bringing of the 2023 season.

Cheng has shown a little bit of a pop in his bat, and as a result, he’s batting .308/.406/.575 with an OPS of .980. In addition, Cheng has hit nine home runs, nine triples, 12 doubles, and swiped 13 bags.

The good news for Cheng is that his power has shown up away from Greensboro, with six out of his nine homers coming on the road.

Why this is significant because Greensboro has a tendency of being extremely home-run friendly. No news on when Cheng’s Double-A debut will occur.
