Sonny Gray, Pablo Lopez, ex-Twins shine in All-Star Game

Sonny Gray pitched a scoreless inning and Pablo Lopez pitched a clean ninth inning despite allowing a couple of hits in the MLB All-Star Game Tuesday night in Seattle. 

Gray gave up a walk and struck out two batters in the third inning for the American League, and Lopez got a pair of strikeouts in the ninth inning. Gray's strikeout victims were Mookie Betts and Ronald Acuna Jr., while Lopez got Pete Alonso and Eliaz Diaz on swinging strikeouts. 

Gray and the Lopez were the only Twins at the All-Star, but there were a few familiar faces as Luis Arraez, Brent Rooker and Yennier Cano all performed well on the big stage. 

Arraez, who leads the majors with a .383 batting average after winning the American League batting title with the Twins last season before being traded to Miami for Lopez, went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and an RBI. 

Rooker, a trade piece in the deal that sent former Twins closer Taylor Rogers to San Diego for Chris Paddack, hit a double in his first All-Star at-bat. He was the lone representative for the Oakland Athletics. 

Cano, the dominating reliever who was traded by the Twins to the Orioles in the Jorge Lopez trade last summer, struck out two in a scoreless sixth inning. The right-hander owns a 1.48 ERA in 37 appearances this season. 

The National League beat the American League 3-2 for its first All-Star Game victory since 2012.
