The hit was symbolic of what the Phillies did to the Diamondbacks for nine innings to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. With their ace, Aaron Nola, on the mound, Philadelphia stifled Arizona at every turn.

The 30-year-old hurled six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters. Nola lowered his ERA to 0.96 in three outings this postseason, and now owns a 1.57 ERA in five career postseason starts at Citizens Bank Park.

“Another great outing,” designated hitter Kyle Schwarber said after the game. “The way that he composes himself, he’s solidifying himself as a true ace. We’re really lucky to have that guy in our rotation. Him, [Wheeler] and our other horses, we ride those guys throughout the whole year, and they’re really showing how valuable they are for us in this postseason.”

In addition to Nola, the Phillies clubbed three home runs — two from Schwarber and one from shortstop Trea Turner. The Phillies have now hit 15 home runs in their past four games, the most by any team in postseason history in a four-game span, per MLB.com. The last 13 homers have all been solo shots, the longest stretch of solo homers in postseason history.

“I think the biggest thing is that we’re going up there with a plan and trying to execute it. Merrill [Kelly] did a really good job tonight,” Schwarber said. “He only gave up three hits. Luckily for us, we did some damage with them.”
